Development of Ancillary Texts

Logos

These are the logos that I have been focusing on, as there are several original logos which the band have developed over time, therefore there is a wide selection to choose from. I chose the second one as it fitted most with the existing colour scheme, therefore there will be an element of continuity, instead of having odd colours that do not contrast well together. I also edited the backgrounds of the logo to fit in with the scheme that I wanted to achieve.

I experimented with several different designs including these ones. As the colour scheme above was predominantly black and white, I varied the colouring on my text so see what it would look like. Also, I ensured that the logo stayed the same, for example, the triangle was still substituting the A, and the letters were still in capitals, as this makes it more realistic. I noticed that my photographs were in colour, therefore it would be beneficial and more effective if colour featured on the logo, as it would visually be more pleasing and would fit in with the allocated themes that I have chosen.

Therefore, I developed the text further by using the brightness, contrast and effect tools. The clothing and make up that my cast member was wearing was made up predominantly of browns and golds, therefore I decided to apply this colour scheme to the logo. Also, the model has red lipstick, therefore I decided to apply significance to the A, and make it read. This way the audience can link together the logo and the cast member taking part in the video. I also made sure there was continuity with the font, size and the text being in capital letters.

I developed it further, as I thought about the narrative in my music video, of the poor girl in the slums transforming into a rich and fun young lady. Therefore, I decided to seperate the logo into two. I then to tried to make the narrative reflect the logo. Therefore I made the left side grey and dull, in order to blend in with the photograph of her upset and distressed. I did the left side gold and sparkly, like her hair and her outfit and jewelery, I also added the tint of red within the logo to reflect her red lipstick. I was happy with this idea, as when drafting it also fitted in with the photographs I was using, therefore it looked effective.

Photographs

I used the same cast member, as I have use the same female cast member throughout the entire production of the video, therefore it was produce continuity. I chose these particular photographs, as I wanted to achieve an extremely dramatic contrast between the two different sides of the cast member. Therefore on the left, she is wearing an old coat, with dirt on her face and scruffy hair. She is also holding a sad and distressed facial expression. On the right, I dressed her up in a golden dress, with golden jewellery and a fur coat. I also applied golden make up. After watching video tutorials I was aware of how to make her hair look posh and sophisticated. I also added an element of red lipstick to connote power and beauty. Also, she is holding a happy facial expression, which is reflective of her life. I think I achieved a good contrast in terms of creating two opposite images.

These are the allocated photographs that I have chosen to use for the poster. As my aim is to merge the two photographs together to create a contrast. I would like to edit these photographs there is  half a face on each side. This way, there will be a clear contrast between the poor and homeless girl and the rich and party girl from the video. This idea will also emphasise that they are the same person. There is a colour scheme of brown, therefore it would be beneficial to edit the band logo and song title to be a brown/gold colour too, therefore this is some continuity. I also experimented with different facial expressions in order for a true reflection of the different characters to be conveyed.
